hi
my house was built in the 70's so it has the wooden doorways and windows that have not been painted white that a lot of the newer houses have. I want to paint my walls to freshen it and do a neutral color in the living room and dining room and kitchen. But the wood has some paint spots on it from the previous owners...and just looks 30 years old. I am hesitant to paint it all white and was wondering if I can just get a stain and freshen those up as well...? Any thoughts or advice.
Also, the previous owners painted the trim white in one bathroom and one bedroom...they were sloppy painters though which bums me out!Paint color?
If you want to paint the wood white, just sand the paint spots with a sheet of sand paper and it will do just fine. You will need to paint on a base coat first and then paint. If you want to add a new stain, you will need to sand the paint completely off the wood and reapply the stain. The area you sand will probably be lighter in color however when you apply the new stain. I would use a stain and varnish in one. I had dark wood stain on my woodwork and went with the white painted trim. I like it very much, makes the rooms appear largerPaint color?
I know the type of wood trim you're talking about. I grew up in a house like that. Personally, I would sand %26amp; restain the wood (instead of painting it white) in order to maintain the integrity of the house. The 70s might just seem dated to some people right now, but in another 50 years people might really like that style of architecture %26amp; people will be glad that you kept the wood trim as is.
I live in a house that was built in the 1920s. It breaks my heart that the previous homeowners painted over the original dark cherry wood trim with white paint.
look... youare saying that you are going to paint tthe furniture all white.. or the wal? if the furniture has dots of paint.. try to remove it.. with something (Eg nail polish remover)/ instead of painting it all white.. if you are saying about thewall its ok.. if you paint it all white.. or the colour's rock (a colour similar to white) GL!
Why not just go ahead and paint all the interior trim and doors? It will update the house tremendously and you'll be happy you did, 'cause eventually you will anyway. I would, however stay with the white color.
