If I have Dark Brown Curtains and would like the paint the room what is the best color besides plain white?

The walls are wood paneling right now but the room is to dark with the new chocolate curtains, but we spend so much on the curtains to block out natural sun light to get the electrical bill downIf I have Dark Brown Curtains and would like the paint the room what is the best color besides plain white?
cream is the best colour, i have it all over my house. its so easy then to touch up if it gets a lot of marks on it. you can then throw some things like red cushions or some nice art on the walls. white is good but there are so many shades. take the curtain with you when you buy the paint so you get a shade that works well. you might try exterior awnings over the windows and film on the glass inside to block sunlight so you get some light but not full sunlight. nothing is more depressing than being in a dark room and you don't want to have to use artificial lighting - more electricity plus heat.
i think that you should paint a light pink stripe then a hot pink stripe all over your room that would be so cute!!! and you could get like a dark brown bedspread that would be awesome
I would like to suggest a very soft robbins egg kinda blue and use light beige/taupe accents.
