My family is re-doing our living room, and (possibly) taking out the wood paneling around our stairs. It's obviously very outdated and ugly, and we need suggestions for paint colors with %26amp; without the panels
I have some pictures, ignore the plastic kiddie table in the corner and the junk everywhere.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think ';midday'; (# 6695) might be a good choice.
You can take a photo of your house %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions %26amp; for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.Paint color suggestions?
Oh, yeah, that panelling has to go. It'll make a huge difference when you get rid of that and the flowery wallpaper. This looks like fairly small room, so considering that and the colour of the flooring, I'd go with your basic off-white. There are 100 kinds of off-white, so bring home a bunch of paint chips and see what goes best with the floor. Using a light colour will make the room seem brighter, bigger, and cleaner, and off-white goes with just about everything. If that seems a bit boring, wait till it's done and then maybe get some ornaments or art or throw pillows for a hit of your favourite bright colour.
I would stay far away from light pink. It will look like hell with your floor and furniture. It has its place, but this isn't it. I bought a house once with a light pink living room on the north side of the house. It felt like walking into a refrigerator. I painted it a light warm yellow and it felt much better. In a hot climate or with lots of natural light it might work but it's a tough colour for most houses.
The question is are you keeping the drapes, the rugs near it etc? A nice brown that matches the brown in the flooring would be nice, a warm green would be nice as well. If you want more color pick a red that matches the darks in the floor(just don't go too dark, every ones mistake). If you plan on picking new items like the drapery, pick those first then choose a color from that which will also match the flooring. Whatever color you do choose make sure you put the paint chip down on the floor to see if it matches what is the primary color in the room.
First of all, you have BEAUTIFUL wood flooring! This last summer, my family painted our dining room and living room (which are connected). It used to be a tacky salmon pink. I'll have to disagree with the recommendation for light pink....You'll have pepto bismal on your walls, and boy will it look silly when the next fad comes around.
What we picked was a warm biscuit color, a neutral that allows our furniture and our flooring (which is quite similar to yours, though a bit redder) to be the star of the room. If you can, I'd recommend molding, it looks so nice and adds great contrast.
Anyways, a warm wheat or a cooler toupe is always a safe classic choice. For more daring colors, I'd try a warm gray or rich red.
I would suggest some light colors for your living room walls. How about light shades of carol, peach, aqua or apple greens for a drastic change in wall colors.
If you want your living room to be a very nice pleasant area i would recommend a pale pink i know it sounds weird but studies have shown that when people see the color pink they become calmer.
either a brown or yellow
ooh, i second the grey, maybe something with a little blue in it, but nothing too dark. good luck!
